4 Ascetics

Commemorated on August 18.

Today we celebrate the memory of Four Ascetics in the desert whose names are unknown. Also 300 Saints who were burned in a fire for smashing idols.

Troparion

By sharing in the ways of the Apostles,
you became a successor to their throne.
Through the practice of virtue, you found the way to divine contemplation,
O inspired one of God;
by teaching the word of truth without error,
you defended the Faith, even to the shedding of your blood.
Hieromartyrs entreat Christ God to save our souls.

Kontakion

As venerable and proven ascetics, as honorable and renowned martyrs,
and as a models of the desert life, O most exalted fathers,
we sing hymns of praise to you,
for you have trampled upon serpents.
