New Martyr Niketas of Pojani and Serres

Commemorated on April 4.

Saint Niketas is revered as the patron saint of Serres, the place of his martyrdom. He is also commemorated on the Sunday of Saint Thomas.

Two separate services have been composed in honor of Saint Niketas, one in Slavonic and the other in Greek. A comparison of the two services reveals a difference of opinion about the saint’s national origin.

Your holy martyr Niketas, O Lord,
through his sufferings has received an incorruptible crown from You, our God.
For having Your strength, he laid low his adversaries,
and shattered the powerless boldness of demons.
Through his intercessions, save our souls!
