Prayer of St Symeon the Translator

O Thou who givest me willingly Thy Flesh for food, who art a fire consuming the unworthy, scorch me not, O my Creator. Rather, pass through all the parts of my body, into all my joints, my reins, my heart. Burn Thou the thorns of all my transgressions. Cleanse my soul, and hallow my thoughts. Make firm my knees and bones together. Enlighten my five senses with their thoughts. Nail down the whole of me with Thy fear. Ever shelter, guard, and keep me from every soul-corrupting deed and word. Cleanse, purify, and order me. Adorn me, give me understanding, and enlighten me. Show me to be the dwelling-place of Thy Spirit alone, and no longer the abode of sin. That as from Thy dwelling-place, with the entry of Communion, every passion and every wickedness may flee from me as from fire. As intercessors I bring before Thee all the saints, the leaders of the bodiless hosts, Thy Forerunner, the wise apostles, and Thy most pure and undefiled Mother, whose prayers, O my compassionate Christ, do Thou accept, and make Thy servant a child of light. For Thou alone art the sanctification and the enlightenment of our souls, O Good One, and to Thee, our Master and our God, befittingly do we send up glory every day. Amen.
